Since I can’t start physically working on this project, I can start my planning. I have chosen my theme for the book project, and I’ll be making a post about that idea a little closer to my April 15th, 2008 starting date.

The Objective

The objective of this project is to publish a book in one month. The published book can be in electronic format (PDF) or printed in the form of a book… or both for that matter. My personal objective is to do both. In order to get that result, I’ll be using Microsoft Word as my editor to create my book layout. I’ll be using a piece of freeware software called PrimoPDF to create my electronic version of the book. I’ll be using CreateSpace as my on-demand printed book publisher for this project. The printed book will be a paperback. CreateSpace doesn’t offer hardback options, but they have some other features I like. I can make the book available for purchase on Amazon.com through this site, and that is appealing.

The Timeline:

4/1 - 4/4

  • Write an introduction and layout the book in Microsoft Word. Format all the pages so photos and short text blurbs may be dropped into position quickly.
  • Design the front and back cover of the book.
  • Prepare a short model release for people who will appear in the book.
  • Prepare a half-page handout to give to people who will appear in the book with information regarding this website, the purpose of the project, and how the photos will be used.

4/5 - 4/11

  • Get at least 15 photos made for the project

4/12 - 4/18

  • Get at least 15 more photos made for the project

4/19 - 4/25

  • Get at least 15 more photos made for the project

4/26 - 4/28

  • Choose 35 photos for use in the book, get them in the book layout along with any other information that will be included.
  • Prepare the PDF electronic version of the book and make it available on this website.
  • Deliver the electronic content to the book publisher and get a few copies of the book on order and make the printed book available for online purchase.

4/29 - 4/30

  • Bask in glory!
